Doughnut Economics: Book Summary

Economics dominates our decision-making for the future, it’s guiding multi-billion-dollar investments, and because of that it shapes our responses to climate change, poverty, inequality – all of the environmental and social challenges that define our society. Also in tourism investments are made with economics in mind.

The big problem (or more like catastrophy) is that the fundamental ideas of economics are outdated, they have been outdated for centuries. Still they are taught in college courses worldwide and still they are used to address critical issues in government and businesses.

The economist Kate Raworth, says it is time to revise our economic thinking for the 21st century. In her book Doughnut Economics, she points out seven key ways that fundamentally reframe the understanding of what economics is and does. In the book she points out how we can break our unsustainable addiction to growth.

In our eyes Doughnut Economics offers a game-changing analysis and inspiration for a new generation of economic thinkers that every tourism destination, every tourism entrepreneur and every tourism stakeholder should understand and consider when building the future of tourism.
